Leveraging its precision gearing expertise and in-field service capabilities, Broadwind Energy is now offering a patent-pending uptower wind turbine gearbox repair service that eliminates the need for large cranes, may avoid the need for a gearbox swap and reduces the cost of rebuilding gearboxes by conducting the process uptower.
After borescope inspection and an engineering feasibility review, our technicians arrive on site with our mobile gearbox service unit. During the disassembly of the wind turbine gearbox, the bearings and gearing are removed and replaced with new and upgraded bearings and gearing. After completion of a custom ramp-up / break-in process, including Broadwind’s comprehensive 4-phase drain, flush, rinse and fill oil change process, the remanufactured turbine is returned to service. Broadwind’s engineered solution includes a 3-year warranty.
“Wind farm owners and operators face increased pressure to contain costs and we are pleased to provide a suite of uptower engineered services that meet this need. We have successfully completed this remanufacturing service for our first customers and are ready to roll it out to additional customers across North America.”
