Broadwind Energy, Inc. today announced strong fourth-quarter orders, including a $23 million order for wind turbine towers. The tower order was Broadwinds first order from a leading U.S. wind turbine manufacturer and will encompass towers for various domestic wind projects.

Broadwind will manufacture welded sub-assemblies for Caterpillar's lines of large draglines, crawlers and excavating equipment. These components will be produced in Broadwind's facilities in Abilene, Texas and Manitowoc, Wisconsin. This work, along with the expansion of Broadwind's wind tower business in 2012, should create approximately 50 new jobs.

Broadwind continues to diversify its customer base leveraging core competency in taller, heavier towers. Siemens has selected Broadwind Energy to supply 36 locally manufactured towers for the expansion of the MidAmerican Energy wind project in Iowa and has signed an option for an additional 25 towers.
